Notes of meeting 12th February 15
This month there were 20 members present..
This month’s demonstration by John Blake covered aspects of turning wet wood to produce a natural edge bowl as well as a conventional bowl design. By turning the rough bowl shape with a wall thickness of about 10% of the bowl diameter, air dried wood dries at approximately 25 mm per year so a wall thickness of 10 – 14 mm will dry in approximately 6 months.
John finished by turning a previously rough turned bowl that had dried and demonstrated re chucking and jam chuck techniques.
This Month’s Competition
This month’s competition was jointly won by Bert Alexius and John Charnock.
An item of wet turned wood that will be finished later in the year for another competition.
