August Meeting

Tonight we had two demonstrators, first Bruce Wright with a demonstration named “a walk in the woods”.

Bruce has an interest in wood carving as well as turning showed some of his small items that can be done in doors with the minimum of space, mess and disturbance to is wife who usually watches TV close by! Bruce produced very quickly a Cockerel, Hens, a Shelf gnome. He also brought along a string puppet. This was something new to the club and was well received.

Steve Jacks then showed some interesting variations on basic pen making. The variations start with the different materials used to make the blanks including aluminium foil inserts taken from scrap beer cans, blanks made up with various laminates including Denim cloth.

How also gave tips on the assembly the turning mandrel and turning the pen barrel. A good demo that showed pens can be interestingly different with minimal changes to the blank materials.
