Some of our Competition entries..
Notes of meeting 9th June 16
This month there were13 members present
This month the demonstration was Bert Alexius turning a three cornered bowl, using London Plane also known as Lacewood, a wood that Bert prefers due to its tight and attractive grain.
Bert first cut the 3 cornered blank and fixed a boss to the bottom so that the inside can be cut without reducing the base thickness. He then shaped the bottom with upturned wings using a roughing gouge. He then reversed the bowl using the boss to grip the work and shaped the inside, following the curve of the bottom.
Bert then demonstrated turning an egg.
His final demonstration was a T light.
This Month’s Competition
A bowl, with pierced decoration either open or filled with contrasting wood was won by Dough King with a segmented hollow form.
The competition, August, bring along a homemade tool or aid that you have found to be useful.
The 14th July meeting will be a visit to Chapel Bay Fort, entry and tour of Museum and outside displays plus 2 course meal with coffee all for £15, names and cash to John by the next hands on meeting please.
There will be a demonstration and sale of goods in Pembroke Castle on the 18th June from 4 pm to 8pm, as 3 people are interested, this will be a club event.
