We are a group of people of varying competences sharing a common interest in woodturning of all sorts.
Our aims as set out in our constitution are:-
1. To foster friendship amongst woodturners in the area.
2. To impart knowledge and expand the craft of woodturning.
Meeting of the club will be held on Second And Fourth Thursday of the month @7.30 pm, at the Pembroke 21c Foundry House(Foundry House, Orange Way, Pembroke, SA71 4DR).
Some of our Competition entries..
This month’s demonstration by John Blake was intended to instruct some of our newer members on the processes to turn wet wood into rough bowl blanks ready for drying (air drying will take approximately 12 months per one inch of wood thickness)
An air dried bowl, that was rough turned last year was finished by John using reverse mounting to first turn the base. The bowl was then re chucked and finished including some small decoration.
The final part of the demonstration was the making of a small owl ornament involving the use of an eccentric chick.
This Month’s Competition
Following the demonstration last month the competition is to produce a goblet with copper or different woods for the stem was won by Bruce Wright with a fine ash and copper goblet, second was Gerald Gardiner and third was Dough King.
Following the excellent demonstration by John the next competition will be an owl.
The next meeting will be on the 3rd Thursday in December NOT the 2nd Thursday and it will be a hands session.
