Some of our Competition entries..
Notes of meeting 13th October 16
This month there were20 members present.
This month’s demonstration by Jerome Kelleher covered the steps to make a goblet with copper insert on the stem:
1.Fix copper tube onto a wooden core by turning a “dowel” to fit the inside of the tube and gluing. The glue has to be chosen so that the void between the dowel and the tube is in full contact with both wood and tube.
2.Insert the copper/wood stem into a bored wood body so that you have wood/copper/wood assembly.
3.Turn the outer body away to reveal the copper underneath. The amount of wood removed is your own personal choice and a wide variety of patterns are possible.
This was a very interesting and different demonstration, well done Jerome for tackling a different challenge.
This Month’s Competition
A hollow form was won by Bruce Wright.
Following the demonstration this evening the competition is to produce a goblet with copper or different woods for the stem.
